Buying wholesale metal jewelry involves more than choosing an attractive design. Before committing to an order, a retailer needs to know whether the sample matches the requested specifications, fits the intended packaging and provides enough information for an accurate product listing.

A useful sample review produces a decision: approve the item, request a specific change or remove it from the shortlist. This checklist covers wholesale metal rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, with a simple way to record what you find.

1. Establish What the Sample Is Meant to Represent

Keep the product code, requested material, finish, dimensions and included components beside the sample. Ask whether it represents the intended production specification or is an earlier reference version.

Photograph the front, back and side under consistent lighting. Include a ruler in a separate measurement photo, and record the sample reference and review date. This creates a more useful approval record than a message saying that the item “looks good.”

Check the base material and surface finish separately. “Silver-tone” describes appearance; it does not establish whether a piece is stainless steel, silver-plated copper alloy or another material. Record specifications confirmed by the supplier rather than identifying a metal from its color.

If you have not yet requested samples, our B2B jewelry wholesale inquiry checklist explains what to include in your initial inquiry.

2. Wholesale Metal Rings: Review Size and Projecting Details

Record the ring size system as well as the size number. Check the sample against the agreed measurement method, and note the band width and the height of any raised motif.

A design such as the Hammerhead Shark Ring provides a useful example of why the profile matters. Examine the head, fins and tail, along with the inside of the band. Look for rough edges and consider whether projecting details interfere with neighboring fingers or catch on clothing during ordinary handling.

An open ring is not automatically suitable for unrestricted adjustment. Ask for the intended size range and adjustment instructions; avoid repeatedly bending a sample to test an assumption.

3. Wholesale Necklaces: Check the Complete Assembly

For wholesale necklaces, clarify whether the quote includes a finished necklace or a pendant only. A chain shown in a photograph does not by itself establish what will be supplied.

Check chain length, any extender, clasp operation, connecting rings and the pendant bail. Observe how the pendant hangs when suspended and whether it sits in its intended orientation. Record pendant dimensions separately from the overall necklace length.

Ask about the chain and clasp materials as well as the pendant material. This matters when writing a product listing: one material description should not be applied to every component without confirmation.

4. Wholesale Bracelets and Bangles: Describe Fit Precisely

Flexible bracelets, open cuffs and closed bangles need different fit information. A bracelet length alone may not explain how a rigid bangle will fit.

Record the relevant measurements: internal width and height for an oval bangle, opening width for an open cuff, or usable length and clasp details for a chain bracelet. Confirm the supplier’s sizing method before comparing options.

For a sculptural piece such as the Mantis Shrimp Bangle, inspect the decorative section and the surfaces that touch the wrist. Check that the selected packaging supports the item without forcing it into a different shape.

5. Wholesale Earrings: Review the Pair and the Fastenings

Compare the two earrings together. Check whether their size, finish and hanging direction match the agreed design. Some designs are intentionally mirrored; others use two identical pieces.

Record weight per earring or per pair explicitly. Inspect posts, hooks, backs and connecting loops, and confirm whether backs are included in the quote. For Lighthouse Drop Earrings, check how each decorative element hangs and whether movement is obstructed by its connecting hardware.

Confirm fastening materials separately from the decorative body. Do not infer skin-sensitivity claims from the appearance of a sample.

6. Turn Observations into an Approval Record

Use a short record for each style:

RecordWhat to enter
IdentityProduct code, sample reference and review date
SpecificationConfirmed materials, finish, size and included components
ObservationExact issue, location and supporting photograph
DecisionApproved, revision requested or not selected
Follow-upRevised specification or replacement sample required

For example, “rough area on the inside edge near the motif, shown in photo 3” gives a supplier something specific to investigate. Keep the approved reference available for comparison when the order arrives. A sample review helps document expectations; it does not guarantee that every production item will be identical.

Once the selection is approved, use our jewelry packaging and labeling guide for retailers to plan display cards, product information and packing instructions.
